A chemical peel is a minimally invasive procedure that helps improve the appearance of skin. The solutions penetrate into the skin, causing dead skin cells to peel off. The new skin is smoother and more refined-looking. 

There are many types of chemical peel preparations, and the right preparation for you depends on your skin type and desired results.  Light or superficial chemical peels usually consist of alpha and beta hydroxy acids, such as glycol, lactic, or salicylic acid, that are combined to improve the appearance of:

You will see an immediate result of fresher, brighter skin following a peel. For best results we recommend a course of six peels. Results depend on the individual, but can last for up to six months.

During your initial consultation Dr Rippon will assess your skin type, condition and your overall medical history, before discussing your skin goals and recommending a suitable treatment plan. He will advise on the most suitable peel or combination of peels, the number of treatments and time between each treatment, and what follow-up skincare regime will give you the best results.

Dr Rippon may recommend some skincare for you to use, to prepare your skin for the peels to ensure the best results.

When you return for your peel, Dr Rippon will cleanse your skin, prepare it for the chemical peel with a pre-treatment. They will then apply the peel and leave that on the skin for a period of time. A neutralising agent is normally applied at this point to prevent any further exfoliation or reaction to the skin. Dr Rippon will remove all of the peel active ingredients and normally apply a moisturiser and sunblock prior to you leaving. Treatment will last 30-45 minutes.

During the treatment, you may feel a slight heat or tingling sensation, but this is completely normal, and will eventually subside. There is no downtime or recovery period associated with the treatment, so you can return to your normal routine immediately following a chemical peel. Some patients report some minor skin peeling in the two to five days following treatment, after which tangible results can be seen. For the best results, we recommend sessions of three to six treatments carried out every two to four weeks.

Other known side effects of skin peels are immediate stinging or burning, flushing or erythema that may last 1-2 hours or longer, epidermolysis (whitening), peeling may occur and a marked reaction can last up to 3 weeks with erythema and crusting.

Your first peel would cost £90.00, this includes receiving an Obagi Medical Sun Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 50 High Protection Product 85g and a Obagi Medical Hydrate Facial Moisturiser 48g.  Further single peels are charged at £70.00.
